A world of opportunities
Within Europe, several millions of people frequently ride a horse, from amateur to professional level. Every weekend, numerous competitions are organised in a wide range of disciplines. In the Netherlands alone, the number of competitions amounts up to 5,000 a year. Equestrian sports are growing worldwide, and Western Europe is the leading region with regard to breeding, sport performance and equine knowledge.
These rapid international developments within the industry create an increasing demand for science-based equine knowledge. People who work in this field must have a critical nature and a pioneering spirit. They have to be able to convert results from scientific research into practical situations. They possess a solid knowledge of horses, and they are constantly focused on finding new solutions.
Although the emphasis within Equine, Leisure and Sports is on the horse and its performance, the study offers a balance between equine science and business knowledge. The programme offers topics such as nutrition, breeding, exercise physiology and training, rider physiology and psychology, welfare and behaviour. In addition, subjects such as management and marketing are important course elements.
